0814 Obstructive sleep apnea in asthmatic children: highly prevalent though no identifiable risk factors

Abstract Introduction Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and Asthma often coexist. There is some evidence that adults with asthma are more prone to developing OSA than the general population, as well may impact control. Different adults, prevalence equal in boys girls, while puberty has strong influence asthma, especially pubescent girls. The objectives of this study were analyze girls severity prevalence. Methods Asthmatic children attending a tertiary pediatric pulmonology clinic performed clinical evaluation, Pulmonary Function Test, Home Sleep Apnea Test. was defined habitual snoring one or obstructive respiratory events (OREI) per hour recording. Control evaluated according Global Initiative for puberal stage using Tanner figures Results We studied 80 consecutive patients, 7 18 years-old, mean age 11.6 years (SD: 2.7), 51.3% female. According BMI z-score, nutritional status was: 2 (2.5%) underweight, 63 eutrophic (79%), 15 obese (18.5%). Puberty present 17 volunteers. Tests obtained from 71 volunteers, 45% presented obstruction pattern. available 76 OREI 1.8 events/h. occurred 69 volunteers (91%), 66% mild, 21% moderate, 4% severe. did not find associations sex severity. Conclusion highly prevalent among these asthmatic children, but most mild. Sex associated OSA. Considering interrelationship both diseases, it worth keep mind possibility teenagers asthma.
